Place balsamic vinegar, maple syrup (if using), herbs (if using), and blackberries in a small saucepan. Gently crush some of the berries with your fingers or the back of a spoon.

Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low immediately after boiling begins.

Allow glaze to gently simmer, stirring occasionally, until it has reduced by ⅓ to ½ and coats the back of a spoon.

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before straining.

Pour glaze through a fine mesh strainer to separate the liquid from the berries and herbs.

Place the separated berry mixture in a separate container to use as jam.

Both the glaze and berry jam will thicken as they cool. Store in airtight containers in the refrigerator.
