Easy Cake Churro Bites (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1 store-bought angel food cake
02 - 1 cup granulated sugar
03 - 1/4 cup ground cinnamon
04 - Vegetable oil for frying, enough to fill pan 1/2 inch deep

→ Optional Glaze

05 - 1 cup powdered sugar
06 - 1 tablespoon milk

# Instructions:

01 - If you're using a frozen angel food cake, let it thaw completely at room temperature. Once soft, use a serrated knife to cut the cake into cubes about 1.5 inches on each side. Try to make the cubes roughly the same size so they'll cook evenly.
02 - In a shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, mixing well until evenly blended. Set this mixture aside while you prepare to fry the cake pieces.
03 - Pour vegetable oil into a medium-sized pan to a depth of about 1/2 inch. Heat over medium-low heat until the oil reaches approximately 325°F (163°C). If you don't have a thermometer, test the oil by dropping in a small piece of cake - it should begin to bubble gently but not smoke.
04 - Working in small batches to avoid overcrowding, carefully place several cake cubes into the hot oil. Fry until they turn golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Gently turn them using a slotted spoon or tongs to ensure even browning on all sides.
05 - As soon as the cake cubes are golden and crispy, remove them from the oil and let excess oil drain off for a few seconds. Immediately toss the warm cubes in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, turning to coat completely. The heat helps the sugar mixture stick to the crispy exterior.
06 - Repeat the frying and coating process with the remaining cake cubes, working in batches until all pieces are transformed into churro bites. Adjust heat as needed if the oil gets too hot or cool.
07 - If you'd like to add an extra touch of sweetness, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. The consistency should be thick but pourable - add a few more drops of milk if needed.
08 - Drizzle the glaze over the cinnamon-sugar coated cake bites, or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving for less mess.
09 - Arrange your churro cake bites on a serving plate and enjoy while still warm for the best flavor and texture. They're delicious on their own or alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

# Notes:

01 - These churro cake bites are best enjoyed fresh and warm right after making them.
02 - You can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the glaze for extra flavor.
03 - For a fun variation, try adding a pinch of cardamom or nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
