Homemade Candied Orange Slices (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 3 cups (600 grams) white granulated sugar
02 - 3 cups (709 ml) water
03 - 3 small oranges or tangelos, sliced into 18-20 pieces

→ Optional Finishing Touches

04 - Extra granulated sugar for coating
05 - Pinch of salt

# Instructions:

01 - In a 12-inch skillet or large saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium-high, stirring occasionally, until sugar completely dissolves and mixture comes to a boil.
02 - Reduce heat to medium and carefully add orange slices in a single layer, avoiding overlap. Let them simmer gently for 44-60 minutes, turning occasionally with tongs, until the white pith becomes nearly see-through.
03 - Using tongs, carefully transfer orange slices to a wire rack in a single layer. Let them dry at room temperature for 24-48 hours until they feel set, like gummy candy.

# Notes:

01 - Keep the syrup at a gentle simmer, not a rapid boil, to prevent caramelization
02 - For less sticky slices, coat with extra sugar after drying
03 - Try adding a tiny pinch of salt to enhance flavor
04 - Store in an airtight container with parchment paper between layers for up to 1 month
