# Ingredients:

→ For the Dough

01 - 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 tsp salt
03 - 1 tsp turmeric
04 - ½ cup cold butter, cubed
05 - ½ cup cold shortening
06 - ½ cup ice-cold water

→ For the Filling

07 - 1 lb ground beef
08 - 1 small onion, finely chopped
09 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
10 - 1 tsp thyme
11 - 1 tsp allspice
12 - ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
13 - ½ tsp black pepper
14 - 1 tsp salt
15 - 1 tbsp soy sauce
16 - ½ cup breadcrumbs
17 - ½ cup beef broth
18 - 1 tbsp curry powder
19 - 1 egg, for egg wash

# Instructions:

01 - In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and turmeric. Add cubed cold butter and shortening, rubbing them into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice-cold water and knead until a smooth dough forms. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
02 - Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, thyme, allspice, cayenne, black pepper, and salt. Stir in soy sauce, curry powder, and beef broth, then simmer for 10 minutes. Mix in breadcrumbs and continue cooking until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
03 - Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Roll out the dough and cut into 15 cm (6-inch) diameter circles. Place 2 tablespoons of filling on one half of each circle, fold over to form a half-moon, and seal edges with a fork. Brush the tops with egg wash.
04 - Arrange the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the crust turns golden brown and flaky.

# Notes:

01 - For authentic Jamaican flavor, ensure the filling is well-seasoned but not overly wet, which could make the pastry soggy.
